Well-known McCall restaurant to shut down later this month

After trying to sell itself last year, Si Bueno Southside Grill will close later this month.

Long known for its (since removed) faux crashed plane on the roof, Si Bueno first opened in 1978 near the airport.

“After 41 years, it’s bittersweet to close this local eatery and gathering place,” owners Rob, Melinda and Colby Nielsen wrote on Facebook. “We have seen so many ups and downs in McCall, keeping up with customer’s ever-changing whims and requests…more than a small challenge, always gratifying.”

The restaurant and bar will stay open at full tilt through July 19th. Then promotions, giveaways and a silent auction will take place from July 24th-26th.

The family’s All Events Catering service will continue in the summer season.

Si Bueno stood alone serving Mexican food in McCall when it opened. It expanded in 1989 with a full liquor license and several expansions over the years. It added grill options and the Southside Grill part of its name as time went on.

The building will be converted to office and professional use, according to the Nielsens. Owners of both The Pancake House and Toll Station Pizza also listed their businesses for sale in recent months.

“From our family to yours, we sincerely appreciate your support all these years and look forward to greeting you on the street in the future! Hasta la vista,” the Nielsens wrote.
