The McCall Star-News reports the City of McCall voted to study rerouting Idaho Highway 55 away from its downtown.
The paper said McCall city leaders voted to fund the study, which is mentioned in its 2017 master plan. It would share costs with the Idaho Transportation Department on the project.
ITD took up discussion of the study at a meeting last month.

The concept under consideration would move most traffic off of Lake St and 3rd St through the city. Instead, drivers traveling north would turn at Deinhard Lane near the McCall Airport, travel around past the city’s sewage treatment plant and reconnect with the existing road at Boydston St. Currently, the proposed route is slightly longer at 2.6 miles, versus 2.4 miles through the city.
Traffic through McCall during busy summer months and key winter time periods stacks up, with a mash of pedestrians, cyclists, local residents, and state highway traffic all coming together as 55 nears Payette Lake.
