The City of McCall released the names of the two finalists for the McCall Police Department Chief.
Candidates Dallas Palmer of McCall and Matt Jones of Boise were picked from a field of 19 applicants. As finalists, they will take part in a meet and greet on April 18 at Banyans on the Green in the McCall Golf Club from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Dallas Palmer
Palmer has long served the city of McCall. Since being hired in 2010, Palmer has been a Field Training Officer, Generals’ Topics Instructor, Corporal, and Sergeant, and was promoted to Lieutenant in 2018.
In his current position as lieutenant, Palmer supervises department operations that include investigations, code enforcement, and the patrol division. He also manages the hiring and promotions of officers, officer complaints and commendations, retirement and retention, and internal affairs. The news release said Palmer is “heavily involved” in the budget process and acts as a commander in the current police chief’s absence.
Palmer’s accolades and accomplishments include attending the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Command College and the FBI-LEEDA Supervisor, Command, and Executive Institutes. Palmer was also given the 2021 FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award. He has an Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Management Peace Officer Certification along with a Bachelor’s degree in Science in Accounting from the University of Idaho.
Along with the above accomplishments, Palmer was awarded the McCall Police Department Medal of Valor in 2014 after showing bravery in pursuit of an armed suspect who fired at officers.
Matt Jones
Jones is the current captain of the Criminal Investigations Division at the Boise Police Department. In his current position, Captain Jones oversees the Property Crime Unit, Violent Crimes Units, Gang Intelligence Unit, Financial Crimes Unit, Narcotics Unit, Special Victims Unit, Crimes Against Children, and Victims Services.
The Idaho native and second-generation Boise Police Officer has served the city for over 21 years. Throughout his time, Captain Jones has held several positions, including multiple leadership roles in different divisions.
He’s been a Field Training Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Force Sergent, Mobile Field Force Team Member, Sergent, and Lieutenant. He’s also been a Patrol Watch Commander, Special Operations Unit (SWAT) Team Commander, Military and Veterans Liaison Lieutenant, Narcotics Unit Lieutenant, Community Outreach Lieutenant., Special Events Coordinator, Bike Unit Lieutenant.
He was most recently the Patrol Division Captain with the responsibility of Special Operations Group Captain.

The City of McCall intends to make a conditional offer to one of the officers in early May pending city council confirmation and background checks. Chief Justin Williams retires on June 4.
