The Valley County Commissioners approved a grant application that would put $1.5 million towards the S-bridge in Donnelly.
When heading up to Tamarack Ski Resort in Donnelly, drivers pass over the S-bridge, on Roseberry Road over Lake Cascade. This bridge has been the site of multiple accidents over the years.
The bridge was designed in the 1960s and according to Jeff McFadden, Valley County’s Road and Bridge Superintendent, it was not made to support the current amount of traffic it sees. To replace the entire bridge, McFadden previously told BoiseDev it would cost anywhere from $10 to $30 million.
The $1.5 million will help put together the design concept for the new bridge.
“And this grant is great because it’s 0% match, but we did find another grant, that’s like a 7.34% match that would actually be the construction of the bridge. This one’s just for the planning,” Valley County’s grant writer Mackenzie Castor said.
The money is coming from the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grant program. RAISE grants help communities build transportation projects.
“Getting the engineer engaged, and involved, and giving us some ideas…this is the right moment in time to do that. I’m fully supportive.” Valley County Commissioner Sherry Maupin said.
