McCall could get its first bike park.
The Flight Path Bike Park is planned for about 5 acres of undeveloped land north of Deinhard Lane and the McCall Airport and just east of the city’s existing paved trail system.
“Mountain biking in Idaho just seems to be taking off and super popular and we have a ton of tourism to this area…We are Boise’s backyard playground. So we were just trying to cater to everyone coming in to ride bikes,” Dominick Guliuzza Of the Central Idaho Mountain Bike Association said.
Guliuzza said it would be similar to the Boise Bike Park, which is located in the Military Reserve Area. An early design for the park includes varying skill-level jump lines with wood and dirt features. There is also a pump track planned for the future.
CIMBA partnered with The Land Group Inc. and the McCall Parks and Recreation Department to make this project happen. Right now, the development team is waiting for final approval of its memorandum of understanding from the city. After that is done, they will work on getting building permits.
Guliuzza talked about how this project will be done locally from sourcing products to crews putting it together.
“We’re going to buy our jumps, the ramps from a bike building company, but we are doing this on a grassroots fundraising and a locally built model,” he said. “We are not bringing in a giant nationwide bike park to build this. We’re going to do this with local volunteers, some hired locals, local equipment, and high school kids and try and really make this a piece of the community.”
Once permits are assigned, Guliuzza said the hope is to break ground this summer and open by the end of summer 2025.
