St Luke’s to open first McCall urgent care clinic this week

McCall’s first urgent care is opening on Tuesday.

The clinic is located in the newly remodeled Allen Nokes Center on the St. Luke’s McCall campus. It will operate seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and will be walk-in only.

“We are excited to be opening soon. We know how important it is to have urgent care services available to our community,” St. Luke’s McCall, Chief Operating and Nursing Officer Amber Green said. “Having expanded hours with an urgent care clinic will help us better serve our community’s needs and reduce the need for people to seek care through the emergency department when they can be better served at a more affordable option through urgent care.”

The urgent care clinic is sharing its space with the general surgery and orthopedic surgery clinic.

The clinic includes three exam rooms, a procedure room, shared registration with the surgery clinic, support space, and a waiting room. An x-ray machine installed in the orthopedic surgery clinic will also serve the urgent care.

St. Luke’s said that the surgical exam rooms could also be used for urgent care patients either on the weekends or after hours if needed.

When St. Luke’s was evaluating the need for an urgent care clinic in McCall in 2020, data showed that over 45% of the 6,538 emergency room visits in 2019 could have been urgent care visits. The hospital projects that the urgent care will serve about 8,000 people per year.

The Allen Nokes Center remodel cost $3.3 million. The McCall Memorial Hospital District committed $2.6 million for the project and The St. Luke’s McCall Foundation also raised over $730,000.

“Being able to open the urgent care clinic this year is because of the amazing support we received from the McCall Memorial Hospital District and the St. Luke’s McCall Foundation for funding this project,” Green said. “St. Luke’s capital improvement investment in McCall has been on the hospital expansion project. We likely would have had to wait for a few more years if it wasn’t for the District and the Foundation.”
