McCall Library expansion sets grand opening date

The McCall Public Library has closed to get ready for its big move.

In 2021, a bond passed that allowed McCall to pursue a library expansion project. But visitors have been waiting for a library upgrade a lot longer than that — the old library was built in 1972.

The expansion includes the renovation and repair of the old building, more work and meeting spaces, new technology, a large children’s section, and better accessibility.

After a few years, and an increase in project cost, the library at 18 E. Park Street is a couple of weeks from opening.

When the $4.2 million bond passed, the project was expected to cost about $6.2 million. In 2022 BoiseDev reported that the project estimate went up to about $10 million due to rising material and construction costs.

The library closed this Tuesday. According to the Facebook page, the book drop has moved to the front of the building and is open until 4/29. The library has also moved all due dates out and is asking people to hold on to books until the new space opens.

There will be a grand opening held for the new McCall Public Library on 5/18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a puppet show, prizes, and more.

The McCall Library website has project updates.
