The commute between McCall and New Meadows will take longer starting next week.
A summer-long lane closure on Idaho 55 in Goose Creek Canyon is set to resume on Monday as crews resume work on a bridge replacement project that began last year, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.
Work will only take place Monday through Friday, but a temporary signal will guide drivers through the work zone around the clock for the duration of the project, which ITD expects to complete this fall.
Work to replace the bridge, which was built in 1931, could not begin earlier due to environmental regulations and safety concerns associated with high spring flows in Goose Creek.
The project will also widen shoulders along the highway near the bridge and improve the approach of Last Chance Road to the highway.
ITD expected to complete the $4 million project last year, but weather, road conditions, and contractor delays made it a two-year project.
Last Chance Road, as well as Last Chance Campground, are closed for the second year in a row due to the construction.
The Goose Creek Bridge project is among an $11.7 million slate of roadwork planned this summer along Idaho 55 between Eagle and New Meadows, as Valley Lookout reported.
