A new trail for pedestrians and cyclists aimed at improving safety is proposed for McCall.
The non-motorized Samson Trail Pathway would be about 2.5 miles long from Payette Lakes Middle School to Pearson Lane, sitting parallel to Samson Trail Road. There would be a crosswalk added at 1175 Samson Trail Road.
The pathway would be three to six feet wide and have a natural surface, not paved.
Samson Trail Pathway would be designated for running, walking, hiking, horseback riding, biking, and pedal E-bikes with speeds up to 20 mph and e-powered wheelchairs as wide as 36 inches.
“The trail will create a safer commuting corridor into McCall for children and adults, and it will provide a walking/biking/running trail for local residents to enjoy close to home,” a news release from Valley County Pathways said.
In 2022, Valley County was granted $190,000 from the State of Idaho’s Children Pedestrian Safety Program to put toward the trail. Valley County Pathways will pay $35,000 for design and engineering work.
A public hearing regarding Samson Trail Pathway is scheduled with the Valley County Board of Commissioners on September 11 at 1:30 p.m.
