St. Luke’s McCall opens doors to newly expanded hospital

Medical relief is coming to the McCall and Valley County area.

St. Luke’s McCall’s expanded hospital opened this morning. It had been in the works since 2018.

“I’m so proud of our team and I appreciate everyone’s commitment,” St. Luke’s McCall Chief Operating and Nursing Officer Amber Green said. “It has been a real balancing act to ensure we are providing the best care for patients in our current space, while preparing to move into the new hospital.”

If patients are looking for care for emergencies, scheduled outpatient appointments in imaging, infusion, and cardiopulmonary, or blood draws, they are asked to use the new entrance off Forest Street.

The other new entrance off State Street is to be used only for patient drop-offs.

The revamp more than doubles the square footage from 30,000 to 65,000. More highlights of the new hospital include expanding the emergency department with modern trauma bays, more exam rooms, an isolation bay, a safe bay, and a waiting area. In addition, there are more surgical services, lab imaging, cardiopulmonary departments, modern labor and delivery rooms, and private plus flexible patient rooms.

Moving to the new hospital was the first phase of the major project. The next step includes demolishing the 1950s portion of the old hospital for street parking and remodeling the 1990s area to hold the cafeteria, conference rooms, ancillary support departments, and administration offices.

Due to increased demands and costs of construction, the project price tag inflated from $42 million to $62 million. St. Luke’s notes that the remaining work is being covered through capital improvement funds.

St Luke’s said that work on the next phases will happen over the next few years.
