No left turns: Popular McCall intersection sees changes to alleviate traffic

This week McCall started a trial on one of the city’s most congested and dangerous left turns.

There will be no left turns on Railroad Ave. near N. 3rd St. for the entire summer. Drivers will only have the option of turning right onto N. 3rd St.

The City of McCall’s Facebook post says the point of this trial “is to alleviate traffic congestion and increase safety.” Railroad Ave. and N. 3rd St., among other left-turn intersections, have become increasingly dangerous with motorists turning as pedestrians cross and traffic has become extremely backed up.

[County officials say increased homeowner’s exemption will provide little tax relief]

And for the residents of McCall, left turns have long been a major issue. The post has gained over 50 comments and one person wrote “locals already know not to attempt left turns.” Other residents have suggested lights instead of eliminating the left turn.

The McCall Police Department and the McCall Public Works are asking people who have attempted the temporary right turn only to fill out this survey.

Signs and bollards will guide traffic at Railroad Ave. and N. 3rd St.
